Back To Work

Well, I have been back to work for a week and a half now, leaving Katie at home alone with Cage.  He still isn't sleeping for very long periods of time, two hours at the most.  Katie has been awesome getting up with him in the middle of the night and letting me get some sleep.  I'm not doing much at work since I am still on light duty from knee surgery so I don't need a ton of sleep to get through a work day thankfully.  I try to get home early to give Katie a break and let her have a nap before dinner.
We get braver and braver as time goes by and have ventured out of the house with Cage for longer periods of time.  Katie took him out to her work Tuesday to introduce him to the gang.  He was great the whole time but the car ride back was tough, and he cried the whole time.  Last Sunday we managed to get through a breakfast at IHOP without any fuss.
I used to get very impatient with Katie when it came to getting ready to go somewhere.  It seemed like it took forever, and we were walking out the door in a rush.  Now it has all gone to hell with the introduction of a baby into the mix.  I will never get out the door on time again as long as I live.  There is just so much to pack and remember to take with us.  We have to take the diaper bag with wipes, diapers, changing pad, bottle of milk with the cold pack, extra clothes.  Not to mention getting him into the car-seat which is always a chore.  He could be dead asleep, but once we put him in the car-seat it's all over.  Then we have to get him calmed down and get him locked into the seat base without disturbing him to much.  Then I fold up the stroller and put that in the back of the car.  All the while the dogs are jumping in and out of the car hoping that they are coming with us, Katie is flustered hoping she remembered everything and I am trying to keep my cool.  My mother used to tell me that I would learn patience once I had kids.  All I have to say is that I am a slow learner.

  1. That is the cutest picture of the baby! Don't worry, Cage, you will get faster and getting all the baby's stuff together....but I'm afraid Katie will always keep you waiting just "one more minute".

  2. We're usually on time but I generally forget 50% of the stuff I was supposed to bring. That seems to frustrate Matt more than anything. Maybe I should start opting for "late and prepared" rather than "on time empty handed" and see what he thinks.

Sounds like you guys are finding your rhythm, good for you.
