Wow, it has been hectic lately. It seems like Katie and I have been in a whirlwind of craziness. We decorated the house for Halloween, our second most favorite holiday. It takes Katie a whole Saturday to put up all the decorations up. Unfortunately, we didn't really do the costume thing. It's hard to find a costume that fits a pregnant woman. Since Halloween fell on a weeknight makes it hard to celebrate the way we usually do, in a drunken stupor. So we stayed in and watched scary movies and enjoyed the trick or treators. Just as soon as Halloween crept up on us so have the rest of the holidays. Is it me or are people playing Christmas music earlier and earlier? Since I had to crawl under the house to put the Halloween stuff away, Katie insisted I pull out all the Christmas stuff. Sure enough, it's not even Thanksgiving and are house is already decorated to the hilt. I even put up all the outside lights on the house before it snowed, (under Katie's supervision of course). I had an ladder incident about a month ago painting the house and will have to earn her trust for future solo ladder work. This is good that this is all done though. I just had surgery on my right knee and will be laid up for a couple of weeks.
We went to see the doctor on Monday and the doctor was able to determine that the baby's head is facing down and ready to go. He had told us on an earlier visit that he was going on vacation for a week starting December 26th. With Katie's due date being the 20th,we where a little nervous that she may be late and we would have some stranger delivering our kid. So we brought it up to him and he assured us that we would have a baby before he left.
Katie is really really pregnant and more and more uncomfortable everyday. Her back is always aching and she is having trouble sleeping. Katie is definitely in nesting mode. She has everything ready for the baby's arrival.
I want to take a moment here to give a shout out to the Dads. It seems to me that most of our efforts go unnoticed since all the spotlight is on the mommy to be. There are many tasks that dads accomplish that are of the utmost importance. I have officially started my journey into fatherhood with the mandatory initiation test of assembling the nursery furniture. First task was painting the nursery, because the new moms are not to be exposed to the paint fumes. It took me over two hours to put the f%$#&ing changing table together. After that I conquered the crib the next day, that only took about an hour and a half. I also had to put the portable play station together with directions that might as well have been telling me to assemble the space station with 10 parts missing. I also had to assemble the baby swinger. This is just the beginning of the many many things fathers will be required to a put together in their child's life. I would never have been able to do these tasks had it not been for my father. He is the one that taught me all these necessary skills that would someday allow me to be as good a father as he was. Letting me hold the flashlight for him, making me struggle to get a screw loose, and him helping me fix my car where all essential life lessons and skills that he was teaching me. I can't wait until my little guy can hold the flashlight for me.
Good job, Daddy Cage. The nursery looks great, I just assumed little elves put the furniture together....no wonder Ken was always so tired, too.
ReplyDeleteThe nursery looks awesome! Cage - you're going to be a great dad, your kind words about your own dad have brought tears to my eyes. Damn you.
